A stunning building on the Royal Mile, Edinburgh

This building stands on the Royal Mile, at the top of Cockburn Street and is home to The Woollen Mill. For as long I have been walking up and down the High Street there has been a Woollen Mill there, but can anyone tell me what it was before that?
