Our Track of the Month for January comes from Edinburgh youngsters Bwani Junction, who take their name from a 1956 film, set in an Indian railway town just prior to independence.

Reinforcing the story behind their name, the band design and give away "railway tickets" at all of their gigs, with fans now treating them as collectibles. They're currently being tipped by A&Rs, promoters and radio presenters and recently played a live session for the BBC's Vic Galloway. Bwani Junction are just one of the Scottish bands selected to take part in the BBC Introducing Musicians' Masterclass sessions at London's Maida Vale and Abbey Road Studios. The initiative will see famous musicians, industry professionals and top BBC DJs give advice to some of the UK's most promising songwriters on 3 February. Musicians were chosen by regional BBC Introducing teams throughout the UK. Also attending from Scotland are Profisee, Aerials Up, Crayons, Rachel Sermanni, Simon Doherty, Ross Clark and hip-hop producer Show N Prove. Artists giving advice at the sessions include Kaiser Chiefs, Calvin Harris and Tinchy Stryder as well as the BBC's Zane Lowe, Annie Mac, Jo Whiley, Steve Lamacq, Tom Robinson and Pete Tong. The sessions will also be broadcast live online (www.bbc.co.uk/music/introducing/advice/masterclass/2011/schedule) so even musicians who didn't get an invite can learn more.

Scotland's largest music industry showcase event, goNorth is now accepting submissions from emerging acts. goNorth 2011 will take place in Inverness on 9 and 10 June and organisers have unveiled an exciting addition, the goNorth Festival Tour. Instead of a stage at Rockness, all bands selected to showcase at goNorth 2011 will also gain a slot on one or more at the three festivals participating in the tour, Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival, The Wickerman Festival and Loopallu. Still in Inverness, a new creative space has recently opened in the city centre. Ig:Lu is fast becoming a creative hub, combining free art exhibitions with live performances and offering a fresh outlet for the creative community in the Highlands. Rather than a traditional website Ig:Lu has instead opted for one-off web pages for each event, with the most recent a live performance from local musician Iain McLaughlin. Former UTR track of the month band, Glasgow's Three Blind Wolves will re-release their Sound of the Storm mini album with the London-based Communion Records, founded by Ben Lovett of Mumford & Sons. As well as releasing compilation albums featuring many of the best new artists in folk, Communion run live nights across the UK and have featured the likes of Laura Marling, Mumford & Sons and rising Highlands star Rachel Sermanni. Three Blind Wolves will play a number of Communion nights as part of their UK tour throughout March ahead of the re-release (www.communionmusic.co.uk).

Edinburgh's Found are set to release their debut album factorycraft on Chemikal Underground Records with an album launch on 14 March at the Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh.
