A CREATIVE writing competition for pupils in Edinburgh has received a record number of entries this year.

The Green Pencil Awards have attracted more than 1000 submissions from pupils in primaries four to seven.

The theme is "nature on our doorstep", reflecting the fact that 2010 has been declared International Year of Biodiversity. An awards ceremony will take place on November 26.
