Festival not the first
Perhaps she was not here in Morningside in September 1983. Had she been here, she might have attended Morningside Saturday. This may have only been a one-day affair, but it was indeed a Festival of Morningside, organised by the Morningside Community Council.
We did not put on a play, but we involved as many of the local organisations as possible to do a turn, have a stand, play music, exhibit their activities in some way, to show what was happening locally around us.

Hide AdThere was a parade from the Churchill Theatre to Braid Road to catch the attention of people who may not have seen the advance publicity.
The day was opened by Andy Irvine, a local resident at that time. It took over the whole of the Cluny Centre and spilled out on to the road. We had packed halls all day.
There was even a cartoon in the Evening News by Laidlaw, the wonderful cartoonist of the day, with several photos of the activities of the day and a good write-up. It was hailed by all as a great success. It was a Festival of Morningside, definitely.
