Weather fails to dampen spirits as T in the Park revellers rock round the clock

SUNSHINE and showers were the order of the day for T in the Park as the festival drew to damp a close for another year.

Revellers had been lulled into a false sense of security by blue skies and sun in the morning, with many abandoning their wellies and ponchos, believing that forecasts of heavy rain had failed to materialise. However, the skies opened at 2pm and a prolonged deluge soaked the site, before the sun returned.

Despite repeated drenchings, music fans were not discouraged, many having painted their faces and donned fancy dresses and outlandish gear - furry animal-head hats and full-body tiger suits among the popular choices - to see out the rest of the day.

One of the most impressive outfits, however, was the reveller who wandered the site wearing the bottom half of a furry mascot, his upper body sprayed silver and sporting a mirror ball on his head.

Shona Young from Cardonald, Glasgow, was not put off by the wet weather: "I actually find the rain easier to deal with than the sun. It's always hard to deal with the heat at T in the Park, whereas with the rain, all you need is a poncho and wellies."

Amongst the big names playing yesterday were reformed Britpoppers Pulp, former Oasis singer Liam Gallagher's new band Beady Eye and New Wave veterans Blondie, who lifted the spirits of the Main Stage crowd during the first downpour of the afternoon.

Scottish DJ Calvin Harris headlined King Tut's Wah Wah Hut, while fellow Scots KT Tunstall and Thrum also made an appearance, while one of the highlights of the weekend was R&B star Beyonce's appearance on Saturday night. T in the Park organiser Geoff Ellis said: "Beyonce I think exceeded our expectations."

The police yesterday praised the behaviour of the crowds, saying crime was well down on 2010. Chief Superintendent Craig Suttie, Event Commander, said: "I am delighted with the way the event has gone so far. True to form, the T in the Park crowd has been magnificent."
