Gay pride march and protest banned

Serbian authorities banned a gay pride march and an anti-gay protest planned for Sunday in Belgrade to “avoid bloodshed.”

During a similar event last year, about 100 people were injured, cars burned and shops looted in clashes between police and far right extremists.

Anti-gay prejudice is widespread in the conservative Balkan country.
