Second Division: Cowdenbeath hit the top

The first quarter of games in the Second Division ended with Cowdenbeath dislodging Arbroath from top spot after their 2-0 success over Stirling Albion at Central Park.

On-loan Hearts youngster Jordon Morton dusted himself down after being fouled by Albion goalkeeper Sam Filler to net a first-half penalty and Marc McKenzie sealed the win within two minutes of the restart.

Arbroath were knocked off the top after ten-man Forfar fought back to earn a 1-1 at Station Park. Lee Sibanda fired the Gayfield men ahead when he converted a Josh Falkingham pass after just eight minutes and the hosts suffered another blow as Michael Bolochoweckyj was dismissed before half time for a second bookable offence. But Forfar produced a rousing second-half display and got their reward when Joe Shaughnessy levelled with eight minutes left.

Stenhousemuir bounced back from their heavy defeat at Airdrie last time out to record a 3-1 home win over Dumbarton. A goal from former Sons player Andy Rodgers and a Ross McMillan double did the damage before Scott Agnew grabbed a late consolation when he curled in a fine free-kick.

Brechin hit back to earn a 1-1 draw against an Airdrie side that played over an hour with ten men. The Diamonds had gone ahead through Ryan Donnelly’s goal before Kieran Stallard was sent off for a late challenge on Graham Weir after 27 minutes. Charlie King equalised for City with a second-half penalty after he had been brought down by Nathan Blockley.

East Fife made it two wins in a row and moved further away from the bottom-of-the-table position now occupied by hosts Albion Rovers after a 3-0 success at Cliftonhill. Craig Johnstone turned in a Darren Smith cross to fire the Fifers ahead by half-time and he then curled home a free kick within a minute of the second half starting.

Bobby Linn capitalised on some slack defending to complete the scoring six minutes from time.
