SPFL League Two leaders East Stirling have been drawn against Threave Rovers in the second round of the Scottish Cup, with Ochilview head coach John Coughlin looking forward to meeting some old friends.

Speaking after the draw was made yesterday afternoon, Coughlin said: “When I was the manager of Stenhousemuir we played against Threave a couple of times. In fact, my very first day in the job we lost to them 1-0 in the Scottish Cup. The next season we beat them 5-0 and then we drew with them just before I left Ochilview. It was a bad winter that year and by the time they played the replay David Irons was the manager of Stenhousemuir after being a player for Threave in the first game.”

Coughlin added: “I also know their manager Euan Brydson, who had a short spell in charge of Annan last season, and did very well there. He impressed me during that time so I know that we will be in for a tough tie when it comes around.”

Albion Rovers manager James Ward will lead his side for the first ever time in a Scottish Cup tie against Spartans at Cliftonhill and he is excited by the prospect. Ward, who was appointed during the summer, said: “It is great that we are facing a side with a great tradition in the Scottish Cup in my first ever tie. I know that we have to play
well in order that I can get my first win in the Scottish Cup.”

There is only one all-SPFL tie, Berwick Rangers v Peterhead, as five of the remaining League Two sides were drawn against Lowland League opposition, with Queen’s Park hosting Preston Athletic at Hampden Park, Clyde travelling to Gala Fairydean Rovers, Montrose heading for Dalbeattie Star and Stirling Albion welcoming Whitehill Welfare. Queen’s Park’s head coach Gardner Speirs said: “We will do our homework on Preston as it is not a side I know a lot about just now.”
