Frankie Dettori rides awesome foursome at Ascot

After his stunning victory at Ayr in the William Hill Gold Cup last week, racing's star jockey Frankie Dettori made it another super Saturday when he hit the bookmakers for a fantastic four at Ascot yesterday.

Reminiscent of his 'magnificent seven' at Ascot 14 years ago to the day, Dettori won four races in a row for a 217-1 four-timer that included a vintage performance aboard Poet's Voice, thrilling victor over Rip Van Winkle in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes.

Dettori was at his brilliant best to get the Godolphin-owned colt home by a nose from last year's winner in the prestigious Group One mile, sponsored by Sony. Earlier, Dettori had won the Juddmonte Royal Lodge stakes on White Moonstone while Redford, the horse on which he secured his second Gold Cup win at Ayr, stepped up to seven furlongs and took the totesport.com Challenge Cup handicap.

Rainfall, the warm favourite trained by Scots-born Mark Johnston, provided the Italian's fourth win of the afternoon in the Listed Miles & Morrison October Stakes, but Aaim To Prosper could only finish third in the closing Tabac Gordon Carter handicap won by Ermyn Lodge.

Dettori said: "I really can't believe I've won the big races here. It's been a long time."
