Scots team set for test at Southerness

SCOTLAND'S team for next week's Boys' Home Internationals at Southerness includes two players who will have contrasting experience of competing on the Dumfries & Galloway links.

While Scott Gibson will be enjoying home advantage in the four-cornered event, Dubai-based Daniel Hendry won't have played there much in the past, if at all.

However, the 16-year-old is a worthy selection in a side captained by Stuart Wilson, the former Amateur champion, after finishing fourth in last week's Scottish Boys' Stroke Play Championship at Craigielaw.

Pollok's Conor O'Neil, runner-up to Finland's Linus Vaisanen in that event, is also in the side, as are Grant Forrest and Ian Redford, the two finalists in the Scottish Boys' Championship at West Kilbride earlier in the year. Scotland last won the event in 2006.

Scotland Boys: Simon Fairburn (Torwoodlee), Grant Forrest (Craigielaw), Scott Gibson (Southerness), Liam Johnston (Dumfries & County), Jamie Lynch (Falkirk Tryst), Conor O'Neil (Pollok), Paul McPhee (King James VI), Jack McDonald (Kilmarnock Barassie), Ian Redford (St Andrews New), Ewan Scott (St Andrews), Daniel Hendry (Dubai).
